Gail Voorheis Kimball is abstract impressionist artist who works mainly in oil colors. Her paintings draw profound inspiration from the natural world; from the vast cosmos to deepest ocean floor she finds beauty and mystery in nature's endless forms.This deep connection to the environment manifests in work that captures both the grandeur of natural phenomena and the intimate joy found in lifes smaller moments- the hunt for seashells and stones, the meditative act of gardening, the quiet sound of horses feeding in a stable, or the haunting call of a northern loon.
NOTE FROM THE ARTIST
This group of paintings has been created over the last year and focuses on several different themes. They began with "Genesis-Kilauea" as the first painting of a series of impressions of Hawaii, a place where I lived for many years and I love to paint. I have been to Volcano National Park on the big island of Hawaii during the eruption of Kilauea, a still active volcano to this day. The sense of awe I felt, the realization that I was witnessing the creation of new earth as lava flowed into the sea to become land, I could not put into words, The expression came out as this painting and it began the last year's collection of works I call Genesis. The next group of paintings consisted of interpretations of colors and reverence for the indeginous peoples of the western U.S. As I am obsessed with the ocean and coral reefs, you will notice that I fit in random paintings of fish. Fish and horses; those are my passions.Each of my paintings are rich with color, texture and movement. Works often focus on places where I have lived and loved. I have a new project I am starting now that I am very excited about, but that I will share later!
